In the latest privacy-focused update, Google has started rolling out incognito mode in Maps. The feature has been under testing since September 20th. Incognito mode in Maps works the conventional way like in Chrome or other browsers; Maps will not save your location history data including directions or any location searches.
“..when you turn on Incognito mode in Maps, your activity—like the places you search or get directions to—won’t be saved to your Google Account.”
To switch to Incognito, tap on your profile picture in Maps and press “Turn on Incognito mode.”
The feature has started rolling out on Android this month; so, it might take some time before you receive it. For iOS users, Google says incognito is coming soon but they have not pinned down a date yet. We cannot tell a definite release date at this point.
Furthermore, Google has also launched a new set of privacy features for other products. You can now auto-delete your YouTube history after a certain period, ranging from every three months or even after a year. For Google Assistant, you will soon too able to delete your last voice recordings by verbal command.
“Hey Google, delete the last thing I said to you” or “Hey Google, delete everything I said to you last week.” This feature will be available starting next week in English only. The company plans to roll out in more languages from November.
Apart from these features, Google also launched Password Checkup, a new tool that will now be internally built-in Chrome. Password Checkup warns you if any of your passwords have been involved in a security breach.
The tool has been existent as a browser extension but it will now be integrated with Chrome. Which means you will no longer have to download the browser extension.
