At the IFA 2019 event, Huawei has decided not to unveil a new smartphone but rather refresh its current flagship, the P30 Pro with new colours, some design changes and the latest Android OS.

With the refreshed P30 Pro, you will notice the back looks different from the previous version. It has the two-tone finish mostly seen on the Google Pixel phones. The top section is glossy while the bottom section has a matte finish. The back is made of glass and this matte finish at the bottom section makes the phone easy to carry around as it is less slippery.

While still on the back, let us mention something about the colours. We are getting two new options, Mystic Blue and Misty Lavender. The colours are not as loud and in your face as with the previous colours from the company and what we have from other manufacturers.

As for the specs, there is nothing new to be honest, you are getting the same internals as the current P30 Pro model. We are getting the same 8GB RAM/512GB of storage on the maxed-out model. Powering this smartphone is the Kirin 980 processor.

We are getting a software upgrade though, the refreshed Huawei P30 Pro will come with EMUI 10 that is based on Android 10. This means that this will be one of the first smartphones powered by Android 10 to hit the market. Huawei has also said that Android 10 will roll out to all the other P30 models in the coming months.

With EMUI 10, all the Android 10 features are available to Huawei users. Even with the issues it has with the US government and with Google, the company isn’t slowing down. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting any major announcement from the company until the issues were resolved but I may have been wrong.

Here are some of the key specifications of the P30 Pro

Display: 6.47-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution
    Processor: Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 980
    GPU: Mali-G76 MP10
    RAM: 6/8 GB
Storage: 128/256/512 GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card up to 512GB
    Cameras: Quad: 40MP + 8MP + 20MP + HuaweiTime of Flight (TOF) camera rear camera, 32 MP front-facing camera
    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 4,200mAh battery
    Android: Android 10; EMUI 10
    Size: 158 x 73.4 x 8.4 mm, 192 grams

    The Huawei FreeBuds 3

Besides the refreshed P30 Pro, Huawei has also unveiled its truly wireless earbuds. The Huawei FreeBuds 3 feature active noise cancellation, something we don’t normally see on such products. These earbuds support wireless charging too, the company says that they will charge 50% faster wirelessly when compared to the Apple AirPods. With wired charging, they apparently charge 100% faster than the AirPods.

We will know more about the FreeBuds3 in the coming days. The company says they will be cheaper than the AirPods but did not reveal the exact range or anything we can use to guess the price.
