Truecaller, the caller identification app, has today announced that it has over 1 million paying subscribers using its services. Truecaller Premium was introduced to the market not so long ago and has managed to get 1 million paying subscribers already.

With Truecaller Premium, users get an ad-free experience, call recording (not available on Android 9), contact request, a notification when their account is viewed and a premium badge next to their profile.

In addition to the existing features, the company has announced a set of new features that paying subscribers can enjoy. These include a new spam-blocking feature that includes automatically updating and blocking top spammers and foreign numbers in a particular region. The new spam-blocking feature is available to Android users in all markets including Kenya.

Truecaller will update the spammers list automatically to keep up with the growing number of local and regional spammers. The new spam-blocking feature will also block hidden numbers as most spammers use this feature to get through the cracks.

This announcement by Truecaller comes over a year after the company announced that it has over 100 million daily active users. This means that only a small percentage of its users actually pay for its services. Truecaller is still optimistic and says that its paying subscribers have grown by 130% this year. The premium version is available for Ksh 102 per month.

Commenting on this milestone, Zakaria Hersi the Director of Partnerships in Africa at Truecaller says the organization will continue to innovate on advanced features to make communication safe and efficient for their users. Truecaller recently launched a subscription service, Truecaller Premium Gold, that offers upgraded features under a gold-themed interface to empower customers by adding more value and unique branding to their profiles.

In this region, Truecaller says it identifies over half a billion calls every month. ”In Kenya, the application blocks and filters more than 7.5 million calls a 70% increase compared to 2018 and 17 million spam SMSes which is a 21% increase compared to 2018 per month,” the company said in a statement.

Speaking on the announcement, Alan Mamedi, CEO & co-founder, Truecaller said, “We are happy to see this growth, and it makes us proud that users value the benefits of our Premium features. We are also excited to announce these new upgrades that will help us add even more value to our growing Premium users and help them make their communication more safe and efficient.”
