If you thought the OPPO Find X was going to be the most expensive smartphone from OPPO to ever launch in Kenya, then you are wrong. The company has just unveiled the Reno 10X Zoom in Kenya which will be upon pre-order as from tomorrow.

The OPPO Reno 10X Zoom will be available in retail stores for Ksh 89,999, not cheap by any standards. This is cheaper than the price the Find X but is still expensive. OPPO justifies this price by saying this is its flagship smartphone that comes with the latest tech including the 10X Zoom.

I know the price seems out of reach for most people but OPPO is confident it will sell. This will not be a mass market device but the company will still be ok by just selling a handful of them. It will take some serious convincing to get the people who were to buy the flagship smartphones from Samsung, Huawei or even the iPhones to switch and get an OPPO.

Speaking of the 10X Zoom, it is not the first time we are seeing this as Huawei has implemented it on some of its flagship smartphones. It is also important to understand that this is hybrid zoom which essentially means it is a combination of hardware and software zoom. OPPO says, “By combining three lenses over different focal ranges, this achieves a full bandwidth of 16-160mm, an effective focal length 10 times that of an ultra-wide-angle lens.” This is all talk as of now and using the phone is real world environments will determine just how good this zoom is. With hybrid zoom, you expect some details to be lost and this is where you’ll determine if that is ok with you.

OPPO used a pop-up selfie camera on the Reno 10X Zoom (I know the name is a mouthful but stick with me on this) and they have been able to get rid of the notch at the top of the display. You get a symmetrical look that to be honest is cleaner to look at. Still on the display, the phone has a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1080 by 2340 pixels. This may be disappointing for some people but it is what we are getting. I would have hoped for a better resolution for this price.

Below are some of the key specifications of the OPPO Reno 10X Zoom.

Display: 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels
    Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
    GPU: Adreno 640

    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 4,065mAh battery
