Not so long ago, Infinix unveiled its most expensive smartphone in the country, the Infinix Zero 6. The phone keeps showing up on ecommerce sites Jumia and Kilimall and then disappears after a day or two. This is the company’s current flagship smartphone and I am not sure why they are not doing all they can to ensure customers can find it through these sites.

The Infinix Zero 6 out of the way, the company is getting ready to launch a more affordable smartphone very soon. This new phone, the Infinix Hot 7, will be launched in Kenya soon and is already up on pre-order through the company’s ecommerce platform, Infinixmall for Ksh 9,999.

The Infinix Hot 7 is an Android Go edition smartphone and you should expect a slightly better experience even with its entry level specifications. Android Go edition refers to a version of Android that is tweaked to work well with devices with 1GB of RAM or less. Android Go is the way to go for manufacturers but I still feel that the price should come down to make them affordable for those who may not be willing to spend as much as Ksh 10,000 for a phone with 1GB of RAM. I believe this is possible and should happen soon.

The Infinix Hot 7 is the successor to the Hot 6 from last year and is a device I was not expecting to see this month. The company has not had a good affordable smartphone for a long time and maybe hopes the Hot 7 will be the one. Will this be the case? Only time will tell.

Besides the Infinix Hot 7, the company will also be launching a pro version that will have a few specs similar to the standard version with just a few differences. The Infinix Hot 7 Pro in Kenya will be available for slightly more than the standard Hot 7 but the exact price is still unknown.

Below are some of the key specifications of the Infinix Hot 7 and Hot 7 Pro

    Display Size: 6.2 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1500 Pixels

    Processor: 1.3 GHz Quad-core Mediatek MT6580P

Storage Space: 16GB and 32GB for the Pro, can be expanded to 128GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Mali-400MP2

Android Version: Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) for the standard Hot 7, Android 8.1 for the Hot 7 Pro

Main Camera: 13MP and 13MP + 2 MP for the Hot 7 Pro
