Snapchat to Make Some Key Changes to Its Platform to Attract more Users

Snapchat

Snapchat was at one time a force to reckon with and some internet giants like Facebook even took notice. The app was very popular with the younger generation and people thought that it would take over the market and pose serious threats to established platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

When Snapchat launched, one of its differentiating features was the private nature of snaps and the disappearing snaps. This was and still is different from what we are used to seeing on other social platforms that we are accustomed to. These differences did not help Snapchat so much as the app was popular with very young users and even then, not all these users found it useful after a while.

Even though it has had trouble attracting people to its platform, the company behind the app, Snap Inc, thinks it is still relevant. The company is even making some changes to its Story feature to make them last longer or even forever. Snapchat’s “Our Story” feature was launched back in 2014 and was very popular and it let users in the same event or location share snaps with the public. This is different from normal snaps that users had to share with a select list of friends.

According to a source who spoke to Reuters, Snap is planning to make some changes to the Stories features. The company plans to make it possible for users to make their public Stories visible for a longer period of time or permanently if they want to. This is great news for those who have always wanted to use Snapchat like any of the other social networking platforms they are used to. These changes will affect public snaps so those who were worried about their private snaps should not. It is not clear when these changes will roll out but that has got to be soon.
