OPPO has finally announced that its latest selfie-smartphone, the F3, will be available in retail stores as from May 25. The company announced this today at the official unveiling of the device in Kenya. The retail price of the F3 will be Ksh 32,999 when it is available in retail stores across the country. OPPO tightly controls the importation of its devices into the country so do not expect a big price difference no matter where you buy it.
Back to the OPPO F3, the device’s main selling point is the dual front facing camera. The cameras work independently with one being a 16MP one and the other one being an 8MP one. The 8MP camera has a wide-angle lens and this basically means is that you can fit more people and objects in your selfies, the 16MP camera on the other hand is a normal selfie camera. With the 8MP camera, the company says you will not see the need of using selfie sticks anymore as the camera is able to capture more information than a normal selfie camera. Besides the dual selfie camera, the OPPO F3 has some good specifications including a 5.5 inch Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Powering this smartphone is a 1.5GHz MediaTek processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space that can be expanded to 256GB using a microSD card. The phone has a 3200 mAh battery and available colours include Gold, and Rose Gold.

Focused on Mid-Range and Flagship Devices
At the unveiling of the OPPO F3, the company also said that it is currently focusing on mid-range and flagship devices. This means that you will not be seeing many cheap devices from OPPO specifically below Ksh 10,000. The company refused to disclose how many units it has sold in Kenya since it officially launched here and went ahead to say that it is not interested with the market share so this is not something it will be revealing soon. Well, this sounds good on paper as we want a manufacturer that isn’t looking to increase its market share but one keen to offer consumers the best of the best. The only issue here is that the company was very vocal in letting people know that it’s the top manufacturer in China which means market share is important. What we can conclude is that the company is still recording low sales figures and is not comfortable revealing that at this point.
Rumours have it that the local team (OPPO) is under pressure to gain market share and their headquarters have hinted that they might pull out of the Kenyan market if that does not happen this year. This is why we are seeing an aggressive push by the company compared to previous year. What this means is you should be seeing more of OPPO in the coming weeks and months. I dont know how I feel about OPPO. When it first came into the market, its seemed like a low range phone. A cheap device that will probably break before you remove it from the box when you get home. The ones with the annoying ringtone haha. But now, I would consider. They have gotten acceptance in the Kenyan market and I am more convinced it a phone worth buying. I am looking to get a new phone and OPPO seems legit. Or do you have reviews for other phones like Infinix?
