iOS Users Can Have Siri Read Out Their WhatsApp Messages

Sometime last year, WhatsApp for iOS got a major update that made it possible for users to send messages and even make calls using a simple voice command when the screen was locked. This means that you could easily use WhatsApp, at least the basics, without having to unlock your phone.

To make things even better, WhatsApp for iOS is getting another update that will make you use Siri more often that you currently do. The update makes it possible to have Siri read out your WhatsApp messages when asked to. This option is available on version 2.17.2 of WhatsApp for iOS. You will be required to be running iOS 10.3 on your device so make sure you get the update before you try out this new feature.

When you have everything ready, all you have to do is say, “Hey Siri, read my last WhatsApp message” and Siri will do the rest. Siri will only be able to read out loud your unread messages, it will not be able to do so with messages you have seen or responded to. This might probably change in the future but right now you will be stuck with option of only reading the last unread message.

    Not Just about Siri

This update is not just about Siri as it also brings some improvements that will generally affect the “Contact Info””, “Group Info” and “Calls” screens. The “My Updates” section is also getting some changes and according to MacRumours, will allow you to set up multiple statuses that can be forwarded or revoked.

These new features are for iOS users only, as for those on Android, we may have to wait and see if we will be getting them on the platform. Given how Android Assistant has been growing, I will not be surprised to get a similar feature on Android before the second half of the year.
