Porsche Design is a company that very few know about but it probably will be the company we will be referring to when talking about high end devices. Late last year, the company partnered with Huawei to release the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9. This was a limited edition premium model of the Mate 9.

That aside, Porsche Design is back again but this time with a convertible laptop. The 2 in 1 laptop was unveiled at Mobile World Congress and the company is calling it Book One. The first thing you will notice about this laptop is that it looks a lot like the Surface Book. It has an aluminium chassis that gives it a premium look as this is important since this is a premium device.

The Porsche Design Book One has a 13.3-inch display which can be detached from the keyboard. The hinge used on this device is patented and has 360 degrees of movement. “The well-crafted hinge and its stainless steel cog wheels are inspired by the transmission of a sports car,” said Porsche Design. With this hinge, you can easily flip the laptop from a laptop to a tablet mode. When using this device as a tablet (detached), you will get about 3 hours of battery life according to Porsche design, using it as a regular laptop will give you about 14 hours of battery life.

Powering it is a 3.5GHz Intel Core i7 processor paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD.

The Book One has a few ports including two USB ports, a microSD slot and two Type C USB ports. All these are on the left side of the laptop.

The Porsche Design Book One 2-in-1 will go on sale in April 2017 for $2,495 (approximately Ksh 256,000).
