Huawei has today unveiled its latest smartphone, the P8 Lite (2017). This new device joins the P9 Lite that was unveiled last year when the company launched its 2016 flagship, the Huawei P9. The phone also joins the P8 Lite that has been on the market for close to two years.

The Huawei P8 Lite (2017) improves on the original P8 Lite and presents owners with a new device to get if they want to upgrade and may not be willing to wait for the P10 Lite. We never heard any rumours about this phone as we were all waiting for the P10, Huawei really surprised us with this device.

The Huawei P8 Lite (2017) comes with a 5.2 inch IPS display with a 1080p resolution. This design is inspired by the company’s sub brand, Honor, as it comes with a shiny and glossy frame that we have seen on the latest Honor devices. This is the first time we are seeing this on a Lite device from Huawei, we did not see it on the original P8 Lite and even the P9 Lite.

Huawei has also upgraded what is under the hood with the P8 Lite (2017). It comes with the Kirin 655 octa-core A53 processor, the latest mid-range processor from Huawei. This is paired with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage space and the Mali- T830MP2 GPU. The phone comes with Android 7.0 Nougat straight out of the box.

For the camera, the Huawei P8 Lite (2017) has a 12MP unit at the back with a f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP front facing one. Providing all the power is a 3000 mAh battery like the one found on the Huawei P9 Lite.

As I have mentioned above, this phone will go on sale in Europe and it is still not clear if the company has any plans to take it to other markets. We are also not sure if the company will be launching the P10 Lite this year or if the P8 Lite is the only Lite device we are seeing from the company this year.
