If you own a Windows phone 8.1 device, you will be happy to know that Microsoft is finally upgrading your device to Windows 10 Mobile. Not all devices will be getting the update at once and Microsoft has released the first list of devices that should be getting this update. We have been waiting for this ever since Windows 10 was announced last year and we are glad it is finally here.

The first devices that will be getting this update include the Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, MCJ Madosma Q501. The update has started rolling out to these devices so it may not be available to all the devices at the same time. The Lumias will most probably get the update first before the other brands.

This is the real Windows 10 Mobile version and is not a development version neither is it meant for Windows Insiders only.

If your device is listed above, you need to download the Microsoft UpdateAdvisor app from the Windows store as this will tell you if and when the update is finally available for your device. Open the app and the select the “Enable Windows 1o upgrade” option and choose next till it says it is ready to upgrade. You need to know that Microsoft is implementing the ‘Pull model’ which means that the devices selected to receive the update will have to initiate it manually. You can do this by heading to settings > Phone Update and check for updates. There will be no notification informing you of the update so you have to do it yourself.

This is the first phase of Windows 10 mobile rollout limited to a few devices but Microsoft has not said if and when the remaining Windows 8.1 phone devices will be updated.
