The Huawei P9 to be launched on April 6 After all

Last week, we told you that Huawei may launch its next flagship smartphone, the Huawei P9, later this week on March 9. The company was initially meant to unveil this smartphone last month at Mobile World Congress and since that did not happen, we settled for the March 9 date since Huawei has an event on this day.

Well, it looks like we were wrong and Huawei will be unveiling the P9 early next month on April 6. This latest information comes from seasoned tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter) who has always been spot on with most of his leaks.

Huawei P9 launches Wednesday, April 6th.

Huawei will be launching four different variants of this phone and these are the Huawei P9, Huawei P9 Max, Huawei P9 Lite and another unspecified variant which is only being referred to as a special featured Huawei P9. This is not a strange move for Huawei given that its current flagship, the Huawei P8, is available in three different variants, the P8, P8 Lite and the P8 Max.

The Huawei P9 is expected to come with a 5.2 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It will be powered by a Kirin 950 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. This variant is expected to retail at $473 (approximately Ksh 48,000). The Huawei P9 Lite on the other hand will have a smaller 5 inch display and will be powered by a Snapdragon 650 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space. It is expected to retail at $289 (approximately Ksh 29,000).

The Huawei P9 Max will have the biggest display at 6.8 inches (yes 6.8) and will be powered by a Kirin 955 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage space. Its price will be $627 (Ksh 64,000). The special featured Huawei P9 will have a 6.2 inch display and will be powered by a Kirin 955 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space.

All the different Huawei P9 variants will come with dual camera setups as we had informed you before. They will also have fingerprint sensors at the back for enhanced security.

Judging from how the Huawei P8 performed, I do expect the P9 to be a very successful smartphone and I will be keeping my calendar marked on April 6 to see what Huawei has planned for us.
