Xiaomi’s Smartphone Sales Figures to Reach 73 Million by The End of the Year

As the year comes to an end, we will be keen to see which smartphone manufacturers have achieved their sales targets they had set for themselves back in January. One company we will be watching in Xiaomi, a company that has had a very successful year with the launch of many new products and expansion to new markets.

Back in March this year, Xiaomi’s Chairman, Lei Jun had said that the company was expecting its smartphone sales figures to be between 80 and 100 million. This seemed like an achievable target given how aggressive the company was back then and the plans to expand to other markets.

As the year comes to a close, it looks like Xiaomi will miss its target a bit as it is on track to record sales figures of just over 73 million units. These latest figures were not released by Xiaomi officially but rather by an independent research firm. This means that they might be wrong or right, my guess is that the figure is right and Xiaomi may not hit the 80 million mark this year. The company will still get close to this, somewhere around 75 million units.

When asked about the 80 million sales figure, Xiaomi Chairman said, “What we care about the most is the rate of customer satisfaction.” This shows that the company is not confident that it will reach its forecasted figure.

Even if Xiaomi doesn’t reach the 80 million mark, it is still doing much better considering it is a 5-year-old company. The company has averaged 18 Million smartphone sales every quarter this year and this is very impressive. 2016 looks like a very promising year for the company.
