Once upon a time, Sony was one of the biggest players in the smartphone industry. The company is still a big player but rarely makes news given that there are so many other players doing exciting things in the industry.

Sony’s mobile division has not been successful the last couple of years recording loss after loss. It’s only the last quarter of 2014 that Sony saw positive results from its smartphone division selling 12 Million smartphone units during that period.

With the losses the company has recorded, most people expected Sony to sell its mobile division, a thing the company has already done with its PC-manufacturing business. This is far from the truth as was recently revealed by Hiroki Totoki, the CEO and President of Sony Mobile.

Speaking to Arabian Business Totoki said, “will never ever sell or exit from the current mobile business”. With such clarification, all you Sony fans out there can calm down and not panic.

Totoki acknowledged that speculation that Sony was planning to sell its mobile division was driven by the huge losses the company was making and the offloading of its PC manufacturing business. He also confirmed that the company did not have any cash flow issues as most people think.

When asked what things consumers find important in Smartphones, Totoki said that most were interested in camera, the screen, and the audio quality.

We will keep out ears and eyes on Sony to see what the company does next.
