Android Distribution Numbers: Android 5.0 Lollipop Adoption Rises To 3.3%

Jelly Bean remains on top of KitKat with 3.3 using Lollipop

Even month, Google releases the latest Android distribution figures showing us the most and least popular Android versions. These figures are very important to developers who are able to create apps that are compatible with the most popular Android version. The latest figures are based on the Android versions that visited the Google Play Store for the last seven days ending yesterday.

These figures show slight but significant changes in the Android ecosystem. Jelly Bean, which is made up of Android 4.1.x to Android 4.3, is still the most popular Android version with 42.6% market share. This is a slight drop from last month when it had 45.6% market share.

KitKat adoption has risen slightly from 39.9% last month to 40.9%. This may be a small difference but considering over 40% of all Android devices are running KitKat, it is huge.

Lollipop has also seen significant growth this past month rising from 1.6% to 3.3% market share. As you can see, Lollipop adoption is more than double what it was last month. With the launch of new Smartphones running Android Lollipop at Mobile World Congress, expect the next figures to be even higher.

Back to the latest figures, Gingerbread(2.3.3 to 2.3.7) seems to be still around with 6.9% market share. This is followed by Ice Cream Sandwich (4.03-4.04) which has 5.9% market share. Amazingly enough, Froyo (2.2), which came out years ago is still around with 4% market share.
