With Android 5.0 Lollipop available, Samsung is currently updating its line of Smartphones and has started with the Galaxy S5. Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 is currently rolling out in Europe and we expect other markets to join soon.
This latest firmware is based on the older Android 5.0 (LRX21T) code and as usual has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Samsung is believed to be testing its other Smartphones with the latest code, Android 5.0.2 (LRX22G) meaning that even if you get the update that is currently rolling out, you will have to get the Android 5.0.2 update in a few months. It is also worth noting that the older firmware, Android 5.0 (LRX21T), has some bugs that have been addressed by Google in the Android 5.0.1 update.
Android 5.0 Lollipop brings a ton of new features including lockscreen and heads-up notifications, MirrorLink support, Tap & go (automatic setup assistant). Android 5.0 also has a new and improved interface known as Material Design that works very well with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.
Samsung has also improved its fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S5 using new sensors. To check if the update is available for your Galaxy S5, go to settings > system > about device > software update > update.
