5000 Intel Yolo Smartphones Sold To Date

Two weeks ago, Safaricom and Intel unveiled the Yolo smartphone in the local market and it looks like many Kenyans are in love with the device because 5 000 units have already been sold since the device was officially launched.

According to Nzioka Waita, Safaricom Director of Corporate Affairs who spoke to CIO East Africa, “The price of the Yolo smartphone briefly went up to Kshs. 12,975 as the initial stock was sold out before coming down to Kshs. 10,999 (current price); Every purchase is currently coupled with 500 MB of data that is valued at Kshs. 1 000.

Mr. Nzioka continued to add that subsidizing of feature phones does not make business sense so the company will no longer be able to subsidize them. The company would rather subsidize other smartphones because they can make more from data consumption of such devices.

The Yolo smartphone is one of the best entry level smartphone running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich with a1.2 GHz Atom processor, a 3.5-inch screen display with a 480 x 320px resolution. The Yolo smartphone also has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB using the microSD card slot.
