A new research released by the Global Web Index indicates that Twitter is the fastest growing social networking platform growing at a faster rate than Facebook and Google+. Just last month, Twitter announced that it has over 200 Million active monthly users on its site.
The research also revealed that the number of Twitter users increased by 40% from the second to the fourth quarter of 2012 as compared to Facebook and Google+ both of which had less than 40% of overall growth. Even with such growth numbers for Twitter, Facebook is still the biggest social networking site with over one billion active users.
Since mid 2009, Twitter has seen its monthly active users grow by over 714% from just over 35 Million active users.
The research also revealed that over 21% of the world’s internet population actively uses Twitter on a monthly basis.
Global Web Index also revealed that, growth in Twitter accounts for the last quarter of 2012 was slower than that of the second quarter of 2012.
