The vivo V19 is the latest flagship from the company to launch in Kenya. The phone is available in stores for Ksh 40,999. This is the same price its predecessor, the Vivo V17 Pro was available for in the country last year. I did review the vivo V17 Pro and loved it and you can check that here. The vivo V19 is the perfect competitor to the OPPO reno 3 that has been in Kenya for a number of months. It does offer a lot more compared to its predecessor and matches what the reno 3 has to offer. Infinix is finally launching its new TV line, the Infinix X1, in Kenya next month. The new TVs will be launched together with the company’s next flagship smartphone, the Infinix Zero 8. It is quite a bold move to see Infinix move to the crowded TV space but the company is confident this is the right move. Infinix is under the Transsion Group which also owns Tecno and iTel and the same group has a TV brand called Syinix that recently introduced its Android TVs into the country. The TV market is ripe for competition and we will watch how…
Infinix is set to launch its next flagship, the Infinix Zero 8, in Kenya on September 7. The company has announced that this phone is finally coming to Kenya on the said date but the price is still a mystery. The Infinix Zero 8 comes to the country after the Note 7 and Hot 9 series that were launched not so long ago. The Infinix Zero 8 will come with a dual selfie camera setup, a first for the company. The main selfie camera will be a 16MP one while the secondary one will probably be a 8MP lens. This…
One of the latest smartphones from HMD Global to launch in Kenya is the Nokia 5.3. The phone is available in the country for Ksh 21,000 which is not cheap in any way. At this price, the phone faces stiff competition from most other reputable brands including Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi and others. The Nokia 5.3 should be the successor to the Nokia 5.1 Plus. HMD Global has a very confusing line-up as the Nokia 5.2 was renamed to the Nokia 5.3 and is the one we currently have and the one I am unboxing today. All that confusion aside, the…

Those who pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in Kenya on the other hand will get the new Galaxy Buds Live valued at Ksh 20,200. The pre-order period…
One of the things I have always loved about Huawei’s EMUI are its battery saving features. I have been using EMUI on and off for years and this is one of the features that make it stand out compared to some of the other custom user interfaces and stock Android. You can use the different battery saving features to extend your phone’s battery life by a few hours or up to a day.. These battery saving features are available on EMUI which is available on all Huawei phones. It does not matter the version of EMUI you have as I…
M-Shwari, the mobile lending service operated by Safaricom and the NCBA bank, has raised the minimum loan limit one can borrow from the original Ksh 500 to ksh 2,000. This means that the lowest amount anyone can borrow is now set to Ksh 2,000 by default and there is no way to get any amount below that. According to Business Daily, the changes took effect on Monday and NCBA bank has been communicating this new credit limit to customers who qualify. Safaricom is yet to officially communicate this since M-Shwari is accessible through its M-Pesa service and one would have…
HDM Global has announced that it has successfully closed a series A2 funding of $230 million from top global strategic partners including Google, Nokia and Qualcomm. HMD Global is the company that brought back Nokia smartphones since 2016 as it has been licenced to use the Nokia brand on its mobile devices. The latest cash injection from Google, Nokia and Qualcomm is its highest yet. The last series of funding was back in 2018 when it raised over $100 million. HMD Global says the latest round of funding will help accelerate the roll out of 5G devices, expand presence in…

Vivo is planning to launch yet another smartphone into the Kenyan market in the coming week. This new phone, the vivo Y30, is part of the company’s Y series meant for the youth and joins the vivo V19 that was launched in Kenya recently. Being part of vivo’s Y series, the Y30 should be cheaper than the V19. The phone should retail for between Ksh 20,000 and Ksh 25,000 which puts it on the firing range of the Huawei Y8p, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S and a few other phones we have seen in 2020. This is a very competitive segment…
