Ookla has released the latest Speedtest Intelligence data to explore mobile performance in select countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. From the data, Safaricom has performed well as it has the third fastest internet speeds in Africa. The first two are MTN South Africa and Vodacom South Africa. From the data shared by Ookla, Safaricom’s average download speed is 36.25 Mbps while the average upload speed stands at 13.83 Mbps. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has published a list of the Digital Lenders that have been approved so far. According to the CBK, there were 288 applications filed since March 2022 but so far only 10 have been approved. Other applicants will be added as soon as they are approved.  Digital lenders were required to reapply for their licenses after the passing of the CBK Amendment Bill, 2021. At his inauguration yesterday, President William Ruto promised to review the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) listing system in a move that aims to ease access to credit.
