Safaricom has appointed Sylvia Anampiu as the new Director of Fixed Business. The telco plans to roll out flexible, prepaid fibre and tokenized Wi-Fi access, bringing daily, weekly and monthly broadband options to homes and businesses across the country.
Anampiu took over the role on January 5, 2026, and will lead strategy, growth, and profitability for Safaricom’s fixed broadband operations. Her appointment comes as the company prepares to shift from rigid monthly plans to flexible, time-based bundles, mirroring the approach that transformed mobile data in Kenya.
Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO, said fixed broadband sits at the center of the group’s next growth phase. “We have just over 400,000 customers on fixed broadband today, in a market that is only serving about 1.2 million. The total opportunity is closer to four million, leaving roughly three million people still to be connected,” he explained.
Safaricom aims to grow the segment by as much as 50% annually without hitting saturation, leveraging a combination of fibre, 5G fixed wireless, and affordable customer devices. The rollout of prepaid fibre and tokenized Wi-Fi is expected in the second half of Safaricom’s financial year (October–March), offering households and businesses a lower-cost entry into fixed broadband.
Anampiu joins Safaricom from Bayobab Kenya where she served as managing director and led fibre network expansion and business restructuring. She has also held senior roles at Airtel Africa, Orange Kenya and Bayer East Africa.
