Cassava Technologies has announced a partnership with Google to expand access to Gemini, across the African continent.

The collaboration is designed to remove two of the biggest barriers to AI adoption in Africa, cost and data consumption, through two key offers:

    • A six-month extended trial of the Google AI Plus plan, which gives users access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, 200GB of storage, video generation, and integration with Gmail and Docs.
    • Data-free access to the Gemini app, enabled through Cassava’s network of technology service providers across the continent.

“We’re proud to partner with Google to democratise access to digital solutions that empower people and businesses,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, President & Group CEO of Cassava Technologies. “This partnership underscores a shared vision to make AI more inclusive, accessible, and impactful across Africa’s rapidly digitising economies.”

Google’s Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs, Gemini and AI Studio, added that the partnership will help remove cost and connectivity barriers that limit AI adoption in Africa.

“By partnering with Cassava, we’re removing significant barriers to AI adoption across Africa—specifically cost and connectivity,” he said. “This collaboration should help bring the full potential of Gemini to millions of people, empowering them to learn, build, and create without worrying about data consumption.”

The initiative will allow individuals, businesses and institutions to enjoy premium AI tools such as Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Research, NotebookLM, Veo 3.1 Fast and Flow, Google’s generative video creation tool.

Cassava says the partnership aligns with its ongoing mission to promote digital inclusion and innovation through collaborations that deliver transformative solutions across Africa.
