Equinix has announced plans to open a new data center in Nigeria. This is part of its broader $100 million investment aimed at accelerating Africa’s digital transformation over the next two years.
The upcoming facility, LG3, represents a $22 million investment in its first phase and is scheduled to open in Q1 2026. Once operational, the new site will deliver critical infrastructure that enables local businesses to scale their operations, while attracting international companies looking to expand into Africa’s largest economy.
“LG3 marks a significant milestone in Equinix’s long-term commitment to bridging Africa’s digital divide,” said Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix. “As Lagos emerges at the crossroads of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, this facility is accelerating access to technologies like cloud, AI, and the next wave of startups.”
The new data center will also incorporate Equinix Fabric, allowing businesses in Nigeria to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructure to cloud providers, partners and data centers around the world. This will give enterprises in Nigeria improved access to global cloud ecosystems and interconnection capabilities, essential for modern digital transformation.
“Africa’s digital transformation is accelerating, driven by a young population, rising internet access, and increasing demand for secure data infrastructure,” said Aslıhan Güreşcier, Vice President, EMEA Growth & Emerging Markets at Equinix. “With the opening of our newest data center in Lagos, Equinix is proud to invest in this dynamic region, supporting our customers’ growth with world-class data centers that power everything from banking and education to emergency services and commerce.”
Equinix entered the African market in 2022 and has since expanded into Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and South Africa, where it opened its first data center in Johannesburg last year.
