Yesterday, the 2025 Otamatsuri Gaming Convention was held at the KICC.

Safaricom’s 5G network powered the event. It gave participants a chance to experience the speed, reliability and low latency of Safaricom’s 5G connectivity.

“This is not just about showcasing speed and reliability, it’s about enabling experiences, connecting communities, and supporting the growth of gaming culture in Kenya,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC.

    Gaming Meets Pop Culture

Otamatsuri isn’t just about gaming as it is a multi-entertainment convention that celebrates anime, manga, movies, music, technology, cosplay, and merchandise. This year’s edition saw a mix of competitions, performances, and exhibitions.

Organizer Jotham Micah praised the turnout and strong sponsorship support, “The speed and stability of Safaricom’s 5G has been a game-changer for our competitors. We are optimistic about growing this convention to even greater heights in the coming year.”

    The LAN Party

There was also a Local Area Network (LAN) Party which is an all-night gaming marathon where participants brought their own PCs and consoles to battle it out across different genres like shooters, strategy, and sports titles.

The event also reflected how far Kenya’s gaming and esports scene has come. Veteran gamer Murray Lidambiza, who has been active for over two decades, noted:

“Events like this show how far we have come. Reliable network connectivity is at the heart of gaming, and providers like Safaricom have been instrumental in making gaming and e-sports possible in Kenya.”
