Last week, we reported that Cynthia Karuri-Kropac had stepped down from her position at Safaricom and had been replaced by Frankline Okata. At the time, there was no official communication from Safaricom. However, the telco has now provided more details.

A statement from Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa read in part, “I wish to announce that I have appointed Frankline Okata, currently the Tribe Lead – Packaged Solutions, as the Acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer, effective 5th July 2025.”

It remains unclear why Cynthia Kropac left her role, or whether her exit was voluntary. The statement simply noted, “This change follows the departure of Cynthia Kropac, who will be leaving the organisation on 4th July 2025.”

The delay in officially announcing her exit may suggest that the departure did not occur under ideal circumstances.

Cynthia joined Safaricom in September 2022 and has been instrumental in revitalizing the company’s approach to enterprise business.

“Under her leadership, the cluster has made progress around enterprise customer segmentation as part of our journey to delivering segment-led integrated propositions. Part of this has included refreshing the Safaricom Business brand, particularly through the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ series, which is empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya to thrive in the digital age,” said Mr. Ndegwa.

She also played a key role in driving new growth areas for the enterprise segment, particularly in IoT, ICT, and Cloud solutions. One notable achievement was the deployment of solutions that enabled county governments to enhance service delivery to the public.

It is still unclear where Cynthia Kropac is headed next.
