Bolt has announced a new partnership with Driver Technologies to bring affordable, high-tech dash cam functionality to its driver partners across South Africa.
Through this partnership, Bolt drivers can now turn their smartphones into fully functional dash cams—recording both the road ahead and the interior of their vehicles. The app, developed by Driver Technologies, offers cloud-backed video storage, unlimited trip recordings, and the ability to access and share footage when needed.
As part of the rollout, Bolt drivers will get their first month of the premium dash cam service free. After that, they’ll be able to continue using the service at a heavily discounted price of R54.99 per month—75% off the standard rate.
What sets this solution apart is that it doesn’t require any extra hardware. The dash cam app runs in the background while the Bolt driver app is active, using a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) display to confirm recordings without disrupting navigation or ride operations.
“Driver partners regularly tell us that a dash cam can provide them with additional security and peace of mind,” said Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager for Bolt South Africa. “But the high cost of quality dash cams has been a barrier. This partnership gives our drivers access to a reliable and affordable alternative that improves safety for both them and their passengers.”
Beyond just safety, Bolt says the recordings can assist with customer support cases, police reports, and even insurance claims in the event of an accident. Driver Technologies will also provide IT and data handling support to ensure that drivers have a smooth and secure experience.
“We are delighted to have partnered with Bolt to help driver partners and passengers feel more secure,” added Marcus Newbury, Co-Founder and COO at Driver Technologies.
This dash cam integration adds to a growing list of safety features introduced by Bolt in South Africa, including Rider Verification, pickup code and the Trusted Contacts system.
Driver partners interested in the service can find the app under Driver: Driving and Dash Cam App on both iOS and Android platforms.
