Airtel Money has partnered with Moja Expressway Company that will see the introduction of Airtel Money as one of the payment options. M-Pesa has been the default mobile money payment option for those settling toll fees at expressway exits.

With Airtel Money available as a payment option, customers can top up their ETC accounts or make MTC payments at exits.

As part of Airtel’s festive season offers, payments through Airtel Money at the expressway will attract zero transaction charges (exclusive of partner charges) until the end of January 2025.

Through this partnership, MTC Customers can make payments as they exit the expressway with Airtel Money. Customers will be able to pay by:

    • Providing the attendant with their Airtel registered number.
    • Wait for a push notification with the amount to pay.
    • Enter their Airtel Money PIN to complete payment.

    Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) Customers

For ETC customers, they will also be able to top up by:

    • Dialing *819#  or going to the Moja website.
    • Choose option 1 ‘Top up ETC’ and follow the prompts.

Commenting on the partnership, Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, said, “In today’s environment, fostering strong partnerships and delivering clear value to our customers is the way forward. We are pleased to join hands with Moja Expressway Company to offer our customers a secure and convenient way to pay expressway toll fees. We remain committed to providing our customers with a seamless and convenient experience, and this partnership will help us achieve that goal.”

Commenting on the partnership, MOJA Expressway Company CEO, Steve Zhao, asserted, “From inception, the Nairobi Expressway was designed to provide a fast, safe and convenient commute to motorists and businesses alike. Our guiding premise as MOJA has always been to cater for the needs of current and potential users by availing a variety of options in our service delivery. The introduction of Airtel Money as one of the payment options is a testament to our brand promise as we envision providing a comfortable and seamless experience on the Nairobi Expressway by incorporating multiple innovative payment options for our growing customer base.”
