Roulette is a staple of casinos worldwide. From the grandiosity of Las Vegas, to the exotic vibes of Monte Carlo, and the impeccable ingenuity of Macau, roulette has seen play across the world. However, with online casinos featuring the game, the red and black wheel is more popular than ever.

Online roulette has brought in a ton of new fans to the world of gambling. Whether you choose to christchurchcasino.com, where you can play online roulette, or the live version, you are contributing to the popularity of the game. Which means, there are newbies who are just discovering it. For those newbies, we’ve compiled a list of bet options that are worth knowing.

    Straight Up

Straight up is a type of roulette wager that most people are familiar with. It is a simple matter of betting on a number. As many of you may know, the French roulette wheel has 36 numbers, so betting on a single one means that the odds are 35 to 1. In other words, if you’ve managed to get it right, the payout will also be 35 for each unit wagered.

    Split Bet

A less risky version of the straight up, a split bet sees the players wager on a line between two numbers. In other words, if the ball lands on any of the two, the player’s wager is considered won. However, the payout is, understandably, lower. In a split bet, players get 17 per each unit wagered. So, on a wager of ten dollars, the payout would be $170.

    Street Bet/Line Bet

A street bet, also sometimes called a line bet, is a wager placed on three consecutive numbers on the roulette wheel. Basically, the player gets a payout if the ball lands on any of the three numbers that they’ve named in their wager. The numbers have to be next to each other on the wheel. A line bet, much like a split bet, is a lot safer than straight up. However, once again, the payout is 11 to 1, meaning, for each unit wagered, the player gets a payout of 11 units.

    Corner Bet

A corner bet follows the same trend we’ve looked at now. Rather than three numbers, this time it is four. Just like with the previous three types of bets we’ve looked at, the corner bet goes down in terms of payout, but up in terms of volatility. So, a payout here would come at a ratio of 8:1.

    Outside Bets

Finally, we have to look at the idea of outside vs inside bets. Up until now, the four types of wagers we’ve looked at have been “inside bets.” Usually, inside bets are riskier than outside bets, but come with a chance for a higher payout.

On the other hand, outside bets are safer, but come with a lower payout. Under the umbrella of outside bets are included wagers on color (red/black), wagers on whether the number will be odd or even, and wagers on whether the number will be high or low.
