The Camon 20 Pro is the latest camera-centric smartphone from Tecno. The phone is available in retail stores for around Ksh 32,000. This is one of the four smartphones in the Camon 20 series, the other three are the Camon 20, Camon 20 Pro and the Camon 20 Premier 5G. The prices vary but do start from Ksh 26,999 all the way to Ksh 50,999.

I have already done a deep review of the Tecno Camon 20 Pro that you can read more about here. I love this phone as I felt like it was an all round good phone even with its drawbacks. It offers very good value for money for anyone looking for a device within its price range.

I was impressed with the Tecno Camon 20 Pro’s performance and thought I should do a separate post highlighting some of its key performance features.

Before we get to the review, let us first look at the other key specifications of the Camon 20 Pro.

    • Display: 6.67-inch (1080 x 2460 pixels), AMOLED, 120Hz.
    • Processor: Mediatek MT8781 Helio G99.
    • Rear Camera: 64MP + 2MP + QVGA
    • Front Camera: 32MP
    • RAM: 8GB
    • Storage: 256GB
    • Battery Capacity: 5,000mAh, 33W charging
    • Android 13, HiOS 13

    Meet the Helio G99 Processor

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 processor. This is a 6nm chipset that according to MediaTek it allows great gaming all day, plus support for big cameras, fast displays, smooth streaming, and reliable global connectivity. This octa-core processor helps with multitasking as I found out and ensures reliable and responsive performance. During the review period, I did not experience any performance issues at all.

The Helio G99 is not the latest from the company but it is still capable for a smartphone within this price range. It does feel quick and efficient to handle everything I throw at it.

    Optimized Gaming Experience

The Camon 20 Pro comes with the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU that is optimized for gaming. With this GPU, I did play some graphic-intensive games including Asphalt 9 and PUBG at high frame rate and gameplay is smooth. With this GPU, we get a LPDDR4X memory up to 2,133MHz and fast UFS 2.2-class storage. This combination accelerates data access, maximizes gaming performance as well as daily tasks.

    Lag-Free Multitasking

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM as standard. This combined with the Helio G99 processor ensures you can easily switch between apps seamlessly. This also allows running of resource-heavy applications without experiencing any lags or slowdowns. I also loved the fact that apps in the background are not killed immediately when you open another application. This means that I can easily switch between different applications without having to restart each time. This ensures the experience is very smooth all through even if I am switching between two heavy applications.

    120Hz AMOLED Display in Gaming

    Tecno Camon 20 Pro display

The Camon 20 Pro comes with a 6.67 inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. This display is perfect for gaming as the high refresh rate ensures smooth gameplay performance. With a 120Hz display, there is notably smoother scrolling and animations that you will enjoy when doing daily tasks or even gaming.

The high refresh rate also means that you get more responsive touches and an overall immersive gaming experience. There is nothing worse like slow responses when gaming and this display helps eliminate that.

With the MediaTek Intelligent Display Sync technology, power efficiency is maximized as the display dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to only enable faster speeds when it’s needed.

    Software Enhancements

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro comes with Android 13 with HiOS 13 on top.You do get a number of software optimizations including Game mode. These are meant to improve the phone’s performance during day to day use as well as when gaming. There are quite a number of these enhancements that make the phone feel reliable and capable no matter what you are doing. This is a plus from Tecno and helps to set the phone apart from some of its competitors. Besides Game Mode, there is also an App booster that helps reduce the time it takes to load apps by preloading them based on your usage.
