Safaricom has announced the signing of an MOU with the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet to digitize the county’s operations through the myCounty App. The initiative is part of Safaricom’s wider technology initiative to help all 47 counties in the country digitize their services and operations through a single, citizen access channel. This announcement comes a week after Makueni integrated myCounty. myCounty App is a digital platform that enables all 47 counties in Kenya to digitize their services in one place, providing a single, citizen access channel.

In March, the telco signed an MOU with the County Government of Nairobi to develop and support the “My Nairobi App” as part of the “My Nairobi” hub that will provide digital services and citizen engagement.

The platform, which will be accessible through the myCounty App, will ease public access to county services such as payment of parking, single business permits, among others. The app will make it easier for residents to engage their Governor or report issues and will further provide key County and emergency services, including requests for fire, ambulance, police, and more at the tap of a button. Having a single app to access such services is important as most County governments do not effectively communicate the avenues that residents can use to access County services.

The myCounty App is designed to enable every resident of Elgeyo Marakwet to access county services from anywhere in the world. This will increase the county’s visibility to revenue collection and performance, boost revenue collection, and provide additional capabilities, including revenue management, cash and bank reconciliation, credit control and debt management, and business intelligence systems.

The app will be hosted by Safaricom as part of the Safaricom Cloud, providing Big Data and Analytics Solutions, and for app users, digital receipts and electronic notifications. This will enable county governments to streamline their services, reduce bureaucracy and inefficiency, and enhance transparency and accountability.

“We are proud to be among the first counties to sign up to this platform that will increase our visibility to revenue collection and performance while enabling every resident of Elgeyo Marakwet access county services from anywhere in the world,” said Wisley Rotich, Governor- Elgeyo Marakwet County.

“We have witnessed the convenience with which digital services have brought to the people. With the world being a global village, it is important that governments adapt and evolve in the way they operate and offer services. myCounty App will not only ease access to county services but also boost revenue collection. We are hoping that we can soon have the App integrated in all the 47 counties,” said Cynthia Karuri-Kropac, Chief Enterprise Business Officer- Safaricom.
