Yesterday, Tecno unveiled its flagship smartphone for 2021, the Tecno Phantom X. With the launch of this phone, the company also introduced its sub-brand, Phantom, with the first device in this line being the Phantom X. The phone was unveiled at a glamourous event that was held at EMARA, Ole Sereni Hotel, Nairobi.

The Tecno Phantom X Launch was graced by renowned influencers such as Jeff Koinange, Janet Mbugua, Grace Msalame, Nick Mutuma, Sharon Mundia, Victoria Kimani, Nameless and Wahu. The mentioned eight will be the key influencers to carry the Phantom X brand that was introduced as a sub-brand for Tecno Mobile Limited.

The Tecno Phantom X will be available in Kenya for Ksh 50,000 which is not that cheap but Tecno sees it as being fair considering what the phone has to offer. At this price the phone will be competing with some of the best devices from OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, a few from Samsung and Huawei just to name a few. In short, this is a competitive price segment with customers expecting the very best.

The Phantom X is the first Phantom device we are seeing from the company in a couple of years and it is quite an upgrade. Not just in the price but also in the specs and hardware. This is the kind of refresh that I was waiting for and to be honest it was worth waiting for it.

    Tecno Phantom X Specifications

The Tecno Phantom X has a massive 6.7-inch curved Super AMOLED display that looks quite good. This is a big difference from previous Tecno phones and a jump to AMOLED displays is sort of expected for its flagship smartphone. This display has a 90Hz refresh rate, a first for the Phantom brand.

Powering the Phantom X is the MediaTek Helio G95 processor that the company has paired with 8GB or RAM and 256GB of internal storage space. The phone comes with Android 11 out of the box with HiOS 7.6 custom UI. With HiOS 7.6, users get a ton of new features including phone cloner, document corrector, film album, voice changer, kids mode and a few others.

The phone has a total of 5 cameras, 2 in front and 3 at the back. At the back, the main camera is a 50MP one. The other two include a 13MP and 8MP. The back camera can shoot 4K videos at 60 frames per second and slow-motion up to 720p@960fps. For selfies, the Phantom X has a 48MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens.

The Phantom X has a huge 4,700 mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging.

Below is a look at some of the other key specifications of the Phantom X.
