Lenovo Debuts its Gaming-focused Legion Phone Duel 2

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2

After ASUS announced the latest iteration of its ROG gaming phone line, Lenovo is answering back with a new model of its Legion Phone Duel. The company unveiled its new Legion Phone Duel 2 that succeeds 2020’s model with upgraded specs.

Lenovo’s new phone doesn’t just feature cutting-edge specs but adds more features on top to meet its target market’s needs.

On this end, Legion Phone Duel 2 features dual charging ports – not a first, though – dual cooling fans, ultrasonic shoulder triggers for better control, and two linear motors for haptics.

Display

The phone has a 6.92-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. The display offers HDR 10+ support, 111.1% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, Pixelworks i6 AI tunning, and 1300 nits maximum peak brightness. It also offers TÜV Low Blue Light certification and has Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top.

Processor, RAM, and Storage

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 ships with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line 5nm Snapdragon 888 processor. It includes one Cortex-X1 prime core clocked at 2.84GHz, three Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and four efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked 1.8GHz.

The chip is paired with Adreno 660 GPU.

Legion Phone Duel 2 has a variety of RAM/storage configurations under offer in the memory department. You can choose between 12, 16, or 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Camera

Unlike most phones which feature at least three cameras on the rear, Lenovo only included two in the new phone. The rear-facing camera system consists of a 64MP OmniVision flagship OV64A image sensor(f/1.9 aperture, 1.0 µm pixel, 7 lens, 82° field of view) and a 16MP secondary camera( f/2.2 aperture and 123° field of view 1.0 µm pixel).

The setup can shoot HDR 10+ videos at 4K@30fps and 8K video recording at 24 fps.

The phone offers a single 44MP Samsung GH1+ Camera lens for selfies.

Battery and Charging

The new device has two batteries on the inside – each with 2750mAh, totaling 5500mAh. It supports up to 65W fast charging with the included charger. Additionally, you can purchase a separate Turbocharging system that tops at 90W.

Most notably, there’s no wireless charging on the phone.

Other Features

Lenovo Legion Duel 2 also includes Dual front-facing speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos, a 7-magnet stereo speaker for better sound, four Microphones with noise reduction technology, a fingerprint sensor, four Ultrasonic Shoulder keys, and ZUI 12.5 based on Android 11.

Price and Availability

Lenovo’s new gaming phone will go on sale from this month but will be available in select regions from May. Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 starts at €799(~Ksh 102,300) for 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. The 16GB RAM + 512GB storage option goes for €999 (~Ksh 128,900).
