Twitter is working on Facebook-style emoji reactions. In a survey, Twitter asked some of its users about their preferences on different emoji reaction sets.

Some options are consistent in the three distinct reaction sets, for example, the like and funny reactions. But what you don’t see on Facebook is an agree or disagree reaction.

That will be a first for Twitter, which has allowed users to show love to other users on the platform through likes. And with that, Twitter recognizes the implications such a feature could have on its users. In the survey, Twitter also asked how users would feel if their tweet receives a downvote or dislike. The upvote downvote mechanism is the main way Reddit users react to posts and comments.

It also inquired about user views on the inclusion of an angry emoji reaction.

Regarding the survey, Twitter told TechCrunch: “We’re exploring additional ways for people to express themselves in conversations happening on Twitter.” It also said the new emoji reaction sets would not be replacing the “heart.” If anything, it will be an additional way for Twitter users to interact with others on the platform.

Twitter says the emoji reaction is still in experimental stages, so it might or might not launch in the end.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen Twitter test Facebook-like reactions. Last year, app sleuth Jane Wong discovered code embedded inside the platform that hinted at Facebook-style emoji reactions. At the time, however, Twitter seemed to have abandoned the test already.
