Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled two new Galaxy A series devices, the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72. The new phones are headlined by Super AMOLED panels with a high display refresh rate, up to 120Hz, water-resistance and large batteries.

The Galaxy A52 comes in two flavours, one with 5G dubbed A52 5G and another 4G LTE model. Both have a 6.5-inch FHD+(1080p) Infinity-O AMOLED panel, with a 90Hz refresh rate on the base 4G model and 120Hz on the 5G model.

The A52 4G model has three memory variants to choose from – either 4, 6 or 8GB RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB onboard storage. You only get to choose between 6 or 8GB RAM on the A52 5G paired with either 128 or 256GB onboard storage.

On both, you can expand storage via a hybrid microSD card slot – up to 1TB.

On the optics, Galaxy A52 and A52 5G have a quad-camera array on the rear. A 64MP f/1.8 lens leads the pack with OIS and AF. It is aided by other three, including a 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro and 5MP depth sensor. You get up to 10X digital zoom from the rear camera array.

Tucked inside the front display in a hole punch is a 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera, the same as what you get on the A72.

A52 and A52 5G have a similar 4500mAh battery charging at 25W via cable. There’s no wireless charging on all three models.

The pricier Galaxy A72 features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. It has a similar memory configuration as the A52 5G, a larger 5000mAh with 25W charging, and an identical selfie camera.

The major disparity between the A52 and A72 lies in the camera array. The A72 has a quad-camera array with an identical 64MP main sensor and 12MP ultrawide. However, it swaps the 5MP macro sensor for a practical 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, up to 30x digital zoom and OIS.

The A52 and A72 are powered by the Snapdragon 720G for eagle-eyed smartphone enthusiasts, while the A52 5G has the Snapdragon 750G.

Samsung Galaxy A52 starts at Ksh 38,999 while the A72 starts at Ksh 49,999.
