Huawei Mobile Services, which includes App Gallery, is Huawei’s alternative ecosystem to Google Mobile Services(GMS). The company pivoted its focus to App Gallery after the US ban, which restricted the Chinese tech giant from pre-installing essential Google apps, including Gmail, and Play Store, on its devices.

The company’s recent figures show its ecosystem continues to grow despite the rapidly shrinking smartphone sales. According to the company, App Gallery now has over 530 million active users every month.

In-app distribution on App Gallery has also increased by a whopping 83 percent year-over-year in 2020, helping the ecosystem reach a total of 384 billion installs, according to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group.

There are over 2.3 million developers on App Gallery, a 77 percent increase from 2019 when the US added the company to the so-called Entity List. He also reveals that App Gallery now has 500 percent more games compared to a year prior.

By 2019, only 22 countries worldwide had a million-plus App Gallery users, but that number has since grown significantly. As of 2020, over 42 countries have over a million users on App Gallery with robust growth experienced in diverse markets across Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa.

“It’s not just about quantity, and the fact that the number of apps integrated with HMS Core has more than doubled in one year shows that more developers are looking to Huawei’s on-device capabilities to drive innovation and provide better and more unique user experiences,” said Mr. Zhang Zhe, Director of Global Partnerships & Eco-Development Business Development at HUAWEI Consumer Business Group.

Better yet, more application developers continue to express interest in Huawei’s App Gallery. The company says it has seen interests from global apps like Booking.com, Deezer, LINE, Viber, etc., to join its platform.
