5G is a term that has been thrown around in the recent years. Most people know that it is slightly better than 4G but that’s just about it, many of them are not interested in the specifics of what it is all about.

For most of us, 5G means better network speeds from what we have and this will definitely affect our lives in some aspect. This is exactly how HMD Global sees that and that is why the company is on the fore front pushing 5G availability and accessibility.

With increased adoption of 5G globally, HMD Global wants to drive this adoption in markets it operates in.

    What is 5G?

5G is the new (5th) global mobile network standard after 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G. It does allow for a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together according to Qualcomm. This kind of network can connect machines, devices and objects.

With 5G wireless technology, users should expect faster data speeds, low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, more uniform user experience and increased network availability. With high performance and improved efficiency, users get better experiences and more opportunities to connect new industries crop up.

    How 5G is Different

5G mobile network has been designed with an extended capacity in mind. This enables next-generation user experiences and empower new deployment models and also deliver new services.

Since you are getting increased speeds, negligible latency and better reliability, 5G will extend the mobile ecosystem to new grounds. 5G should also impact new industries from transportation to healthcare, agriculture, logistics, education and more.

    HMD’s Plan With 5G

Being a phone manufacturer, HMD wants to be part of the 5G wave and the company has expressed interest in that already. The company has plans to launch a number of affordable 5G devices this year and this will not just be about high end devices but also affordable mid and even entry level devices.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global has previously said, “Not only does the Qualcomm 5G solution enable to us condense more than 40 different radio frequency (RF) components in a single module, the Nokia 8.3 5G also features the highest number of 5G New Radio bands from 600hmz all the way up to 3.8GHz – meaning it is a truly global and future-proof device.”

The Nokia 8.3 was the first 5G smartphone from HMD Global and the company has plans to launch affordable 5G devices later this year. “5G is an important space that we have decided to play in, and we are looking at how we can launch more affordable 5G devices this year,” the company is quoted saying.

We will be keeping an eye on this and update you on any 5G device from HMD Global.
