Samsung is pushing the limits on the update front. Last year, the company pledged to provide up to three major Android updates to select Galaxy smartphones. Simultaneously, the company has greatly improved pushing security updates to its wide portfolio of devices, from entry-level phones to the expensive Galaxy Note and Galaxy S flagships.
In a follow-up update commitment, Samsung has promised to provide four years of guaranteed monthly or quarterly security updates to its recent Galaxy phones.
“By extending support for security updates delivered on a monthly or quarterly basis, Samsung is giving users peace of mind knowing their data is protected for as long as they use their Galaxy device,” the company said in a statement.
Eligible devices to the four-year security update window include its high-end flagship S and Note series, the growing portfolio of foldable phones and even entry-level Galaxy A-series phones.
Here is the list of Samsung phones eligible devices to receive four years of security updates;
- Galaxy Foldable devices: Fold, Z Fold2 5G, Z Flip, Z Flip 5G
- Galaxy S series: S10, S10+, S10e, S10 5G, S10 Lite, S20 5G, S20+ 5G, S20 Ultra 5G, S20 FE 5G, S21 5G, S21+ 5G, S21 Ultra 5G
- Galaxy Note series: Note10, Note10+, Note10+ 5G, Note20 5G, Note20 Ultra 5G
- Galaxy A series: A10e, A20, A50, A11, A21, A51, A51 5G, A71 5G
- Galaxy XCover series: XCover FieldPro, XCover Pro
- Galaxy Tab series: Tab Active Pro, Tab Active3, Tab A 8 (2019), Tab A with S Pen, Tab A 8.4 (2020), Tab A7, Tab S5e, Tab S6, Tab S6 5G, Tab S6 Lite, Tab S7, Tab S7+
Samsung has greatly improved the speed of seeding updates to its phones in the recent past and has even offered to extend update windows to some of its phones.
It only makes sense for the company to offer such, as report indicate how consumers are staying with their devices longer before upgrading.
“Mobile devices play such an important role in our lives, it’s only natural that we want to hold onto them longer,” said Seungwon Shin, VP & Head of Security Team at Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
