These 2017 Samsung Galaxy A Series Smartphones Are No Longer Supported

Samsung has really improved its Android update rollouts in the past few years, and best of all, it pledged to offer three years of support to some of its devices. With the vast number of smartphones the company releases each year, it constantly updates its documentation pages detailing which phones are no longer supported.

The latest update has nixed five 2017 Galaxy A series smartphones from its list. These include Galaxy J3 Pop, Galaxy A5 2017, Galaxy A3 2017, and Galaxy A7 2017.

In retrospect, it’s been over three years since these five phones were launched. That was still when the company had not yet revamped the Galaxy A series.

Samsung has also moved the 2018 Galaxy A8 to its quarterly update schedule, while the A8s will only be entitled to “other regular” patches. The budget Galaxy A02 and Galaxy M12 have also been added to its quarterly update schedule.

And with no surprise, the recently launched Galaxy S21 series – S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra – have been added to the monthly update schedule. The three devices will also be part of Samsung’s three year OS update program.

Samsung is rolling out the stable Android 11 to the 2019 Galaxy A51 with One UI 3.0 on top in other update-related news. Its 2018 Galaxy S9 and S9+ are getting the February 2021 security update.

Open the Settings app and head to Software update to see if it is available on your device.
