It’s been over a month since Xiaomi launched its latest iteration of its custom ROM, MIUI 12.5, in its home market China. Xiaomi plans to take MIUI 12.5 global next week, on February 8th.

MIUI 12.5, although named as a new iteration to MIUI 12, is an entirely new version, according to Xiaomi. The ROM is lighter, faster, power-efficient, and sports iOS-like transitions.

There will be more than just a software update, though. The company will also launch Mi 11, among the first smartphones to run Qualcomm’s 5nm Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset.

Xiaomi Mi 11 sports a 120Hz 6.81-inch AMOLED display with 1440p resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus atop, 5nm Snapdragon 888 chipset, Android 11 with MIUI 12.5, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM, triple rear camera setup, 20MP selfie camera, and 4600 mAh battery with 55W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging support.

The phone costs over Ksh 80,000 in China, and so the global pricing may vary. Precise figures will be revealed at the launch event, but it will be fascinating to see how the device is priced globally compared to its home market.

Traditionally, Xiaomi sells its phone cheap in China compared to the rest of the world, which could be because they are locally manufactured which means it costs the company much less to deliver it to the consumer.

The event will be live-streamed on Xiaomi’s Facebook page from 3 P.M local time(GMT +3).
