Twitter is working on a new way to curb abuse and trolls on the platform that will allow users to restrict replies to their followers only.
The test is already ongoing, but the famous app sleuth, Jane Manchun Wong, often reveals new feature developments before they are officially rolled out.
The new restriction option will be an addition to the previous reply control options available on the platform.
Restricting replies to those that follow you works on a similar way, to some extent, as privatizing your Twitter account. The only advantage here is that it ensures you still have a wide reach on your tweets, and it applies to individual tweets.
For now, Twitter users can restrict replies on an individual tweet by selecting between three options. Everyone is the default setting and has been around since inception. Earlier this year, Twitter rolled out two more options, allowing users to restrict replies to people they follow or only accounts they mention.
Both of these options have given users more control over their tweet’s reply section.
The reply control options, according to the company, ensures “unwanted replies don’t get in the way of meaningful conversations.”
