Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant is not the most beloved feature on Samsung flagship phones, but the company might put it into more work come next year in the S21 series.

A new report suggests that owners of the company’s upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 series could be able to unlock their phones using their voice courtesy of Bixby Voice.

It will be an additional form of unlocking for the upcoming flagship phones on top of the standard face and fingerprint biometric authentication options.

According to SamMobile, the feature will be included in Samsung’s One UI 3.1 update, meaning it could also make it to other galaxy phones, including this year’s S20 and Note 20 series.

One UI 3.1 software update is anticipated to land just a few weeks after Samsung launches the new S21 series, which two separate reports have suggested will be announced and released earlier than usual.

Samsung has in the past two weeks announced its new Exynos 1080 chipset, built on the 5nm EUV FinFET process, that will be powering the S21 series for models meant for other markets outside the US.

Exynos 1080 will be the company’s first chipset built on the 5nm architecture, which should mean performance improvements while cutting down on battery consumption.

The Exynos 1080 brings onboard impressive specs, including 5G, HDR10+, 144Hz refresh rate at Full HD+, up to 200MP camera lens, and can shoot HDR10+ videos in 4K. The chipset includes an 8-core ARM CPU with four large Cortex A78 cores and is paired with Mali G78 GPU.
