Sony’s next-gen console, the PS5, will be hitting the shelves officially on 12th November but the company is already receiving pre-orders of the console ahead of launch.

In an interview, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the company had pre-sold many PS5 consoles in the first 12 hours than it did with the PS4 in the first 12 weeks in the United States.

He further said the demand for the PS5 during this pre-order window “has been very, very considerable.”

Jim acknowledges that the company is facing supply issues, and not everyone who wishes to buy the console on launch day might be able to.

“It may well be that not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one,” Jim said.

However, Jim says the company is working hard to ensure availability of the PS5 this coming holiday season.

Sony already announced its next-gen consoles last month and is expected to launch them in November ahead of the holiday season. The PS5 pre-order window has been riddled with supply issues as many scramble to secure a unit of the new consoles.

Sony PS5 consoles will be available in two variants, a standard PS5 with a Blu-ray drive and a digital version for those who prefer to go the download-only route. PS5 is priced at $499, and the PS5 Digital disc-less model will be retailing at $399.

The PS5 features an 825GB SSD, 16GB of DDR6 memory, 8-core CPU, a single HMDI Port, ethernet, three USB B ports, and a USB type C port.
