Like Samsung, Huawei has two flagship series in its smartphone category; the P and Mate series. Earlier this year the company took the wraps off the Huawei P40 Series and now the Mate 40 series is up next.

The launch date has been revealed as well; October 22nd starting at 3:00 PM EAT. On Twitter, announcing the launch date, the company said, “Unprecedented Power is Coming.”

Details of the upcoming Mate 40 series phones are pretty scarce at this point, but from previous launches, the series is anticipated to have a couple of models. For now, rumour suggests there will be only two models; a standard Mate 40 and a pro-version dubbed Mate 40 Pro.

In 2019, Huawei used a similar strategy. Still, the addition of 5G models made the Mate 30 lineup to have a total of four models, plus another limited-edition Porsche design variant of the Pro.

Huawei Mate 40 series could also be the company’s last phones to ship with its high-end Kirin chips unless otherwise, owing to the US ban. Huawei stopped making its own chips at its chip-making arm, HiSilicon in September due to new restrictions imposed by the US in May. Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu said this might be the last generation of Huawei Kirin high-end chips.

The Mate 40 series will likely not come to Kenya. Last year’s Mate 30 lineup strictly launched the company’s home market, China, and a few other Asian countries. The same has been the case for the company’s P40 series announced earlier this year.
