[Update: 11/09] – Apple offers an indefinite extension

Epic Games now says that Apple won’t pull the plug,. The Fortnite creator says Apple has given them an “indefinite extension”. Still, the game studio is advising users to update their accounts for “Sign in with Apple” removal.

Fortnite users will no longer use Apple’s Sign-in System when logging to the game app starting tomorrow. In the latest development on the Apple Epic battle, players of Fortnite won’t use Apple IDs for signing in — because Apple will no longer allow it.

Epic is now advising those who use Apple IDs to sign in to update their email addresses (and create a password) before September 11. Users who won’t be able to do so before the deadline can still recover access to their accounts using this method.

In August, Epic Games, the maker of the popular battle royale game Fortnite, started legal battles with the iPhone maker after including its own in-app payment system.

Apple mandates all apps and games published via the App Store to use their payment method, so they keep 30 percent of the sales. By introducing its payment system, Epic managed to bypass Apple’s 30 percent cut, which violates Apple’s App Store rules.

The move marked the start of a legal tussle between the two companies.

The legal brawl has escalated recently after the iPhone maker counter-sued Epic. In its lawsuit, Apple termed Epic’s arguments as self-righteous and self-interested.

“Epic’s flagrant disregard for its contractual commitments and other misconduct has caused significant harm to Apple,” the filing reads(via TheVerge).

On the 30 Percent cut, Apple seeks compensation over violation of the contract.

“Left unchecked, Epic’s conduct threatens the very existence of the iOS ecosystem and its tremendous value to consumers,” Apple wrote in the filing.
