The Tecno Camon 16 Premier has just been unveiled and will be coming to Kenya soon. The phone was officially launched last night and should be in retail stores in Kenya soon. Its official price is yet to be revealed as of now but a variant of the phone is available on Jumia for Ksh 28,500.

The Tecno Camon 16 Premier builds up on the Camon 15 Premier and may not be that different from its predecessor. Even with that said, there are quite a number of upgrades that the company has added to this device. For those who already own the Camon 15, this may not be the upgrade you are looking for and you should wait for the Camon 17 when it comes out. Below is a short video of the Camon 16 Premier.

Since we do not see the Tecno Phantom series anymore, the Camon series can be considered the company’s flagship series.

    Package Contents

Inside the box you should be getting the following:

    • The Camon 16 Premier
    • A Pair of Earphones
    • USB C Cable
    • Wall Adapter for charging (supports 33W charging)
    • Silicone Case
    • Warranty card

Tecno Camon 16 Premier First Impressions

The Tecno Camon 16 Premier takes a slightly different approach when compared to its predecessor. It is almost the same size as the Camon 15 Premier but does not feel as bulky to me. It is still a massive phone with a massive 6.9-inch display that is very big but still usable. This is a 90Hz display with a resolution of 1080 by 2460 pixels. It comes with the screen protector in place so that is one more thing not to worry about.

At the top left section of the display is the dual front facing camera setup. This is made up of a 48MP main sensor paired with an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The shots taken are good but I will be using the phone for an extended period of time so as to determine if it is worth it.

At the back of the phone we get to see the quad camera setup housed in a square module. This is different from what we saw on the Camon 15 series. The back camera module is made up of a 64MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide sensor, 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP dedicated video camera. Not a bad combination if you ask me.

Still on the back is where you find the Tecno branding and nothing else. The review unit I got from Tecno is in a colour the company is calling Glacier Silver. The edges are slightly curved so the phone is comfortable to carry around.

On the left of the phone is the dual SIM slot with the power and volume keys on the right of the phone. The power button has the fingerprint scanner embedded underneath and they are both within easy reach when using the phone with one hand.

The headphone jack, USB C port and speaker grille are all at the base of the phone.

    Initial Thoughts

The Tecno Camon 16 Premier is a massive phone and does feel as much. It is not that heavy and this is a good thing. The overall build quality feels solid and worth the price. This display size is perfect for me for both work and for video consumption. The display gets bright but is a fingerprint magnet.

The externals aside, the Camon 16 Premier comes with some very powerful Internals. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G90T that should make for a good gaming experience. The phone is still new so I cannot comment so much on its performance as so far it has been good. This is what I will be looking at as I work on the full review of this phone.

    Tecno Camon 16 Premier kenya

The Camon 16 Premier comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space as standard. With this configuration, I am expecting an excellent experience.

For the battery, it does come with a 4500 mAh unit that supports 33W fast charging.

I will be using the phone extensively and share my thoughts on it in the full review.
