Google Meet Adds Built-in Chromecast Support

Google Meet, the company’s frontline Zoom competitor, has been adding new features continuously since earlier this year, and it doesn’t seem to stop. With the work from home “normal” still ongoing, video conferencing platforms are still scrambling for the pie.

So far, Google Meet has received a slew of new features, and the new one in town is baked-in Chrome cast. Google is making it easier for you to chat on the big screen. This isn’t entirely new as you could still be able to do so by casting your phone screen on TVs and other Chromecast-enabled devices.

Since Meet has Chromecast support, you can now tap on the newly added “Cast this meeting” option. Best of all, this option can be enabled even before joining a meeting – you have time to prepare. Casting can also be initiated anytime in an ongoing meeting by heading over to the three-dot overflow menu in the bottom right.

    Support

Google Meet’s native Chromecast support feature supports the Chromecast Ultra as well as its predecessors – the first and second-gen Chromecast devices. For the TVs or display, you can use any, as long as its support casting. However, the critical issue will be on performance, which Google says may vary.
