I have been using the Tecno Pouvoir 4 for a little over two weeks as my secondary phone. This is one of the latest devices from Tecno and is available in Kenya for Ksh 14,000. This is slightly higher when compared to its predecessor, the Tecno Pouvoir 3 that is currently available for less than Ksh 9,000.

Tecno has added a number of new features to the Pouvoir 4 and that may be one of the justifications for the price hike.

The Tecno Pouvoir 4 comes with a 7-inch display, 6,000 mAh battery, dedicated Google Assistant button, Quad camera setup among other features. The ones I have listed are just some of the key ones that combined give this phone the boost it needs to stand out from its competitors. Is this enough to worth your money? Let us find out in the full review.

    Design and Build Quality

The Tecno Pouvoir 4 has a lot in common with the Tecno Spark 5. Nothing wrong with this as both look good and not cheap as is the case with most other devices within the same price range. At the back there is the quad camera module at the top left section with the fingerprint scanner next to it and Tecno branding.

    Tecno Pouvoir 4 back

Tecno has improved its branding on most of its newer phones and the Pouvoir 4 is just one of them. We get the Pouvoir branding that looks quite different and unique from what we see on most other phones it is competing with. The back is made of plastic but still looks and feels good. I got the blue version that that looks stunning.

Even with its big size, the phone feels comfortable to hold and carry around. The corners are curved so it sits comfortably on my hand.

Still on the hardware, Tecno has included a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left of the phone. If you regularly use Google Assistant, this button will be helpful to you. There is no way to reprogram it to do any other task.

The other ports and keys include the power and volume keys on the right side of the phone with the Micro USB port, headphone jack and speaker grille at the base of the phone.

    The Display

The Tecno Pouvoir 4 has 7-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1640 pixels. This is not the best Tecno could have done as a big display with such a resolution may not be the best combination.

With The display this size, media consumption is what you will really enjoy with this phone. If you watch a lot of videos and movies on your phone, you will have a good experience. The display gets bright enough for use under direct sunlight so you don’t have to worry about issues related to that.

    Software and performance

The Tecno Pouvoir 4 is powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 processor that is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. For day to day use, this is ok and you will not experience any problems. The phone handles most tasks without any lag and this will be enough for a majority of the people out there.

For those into mobile gaming, you will still be able to play some titles but not the demanding ones. The phone can still play such games but you will have to do that in low settings for a better experience.

Android 10 comes pre-installed on the Pouvoir 4 so you should be getting everything new with Android 10. These include features such as system wide dark mode and gesture navigation.

    Cameras

The Tecno Pouvoir 4 has a quad camera setup at the back with an 8MP selfie camera. The back-camera module is made up of a 13MP main sensor and three 2MP sensors. These three additional sensors include a depth sensor, a macro lens and the third one should be one dedicated for videos.

Even with the four cameras at the back, you get just average results most of the times. Do not expect anything out of the ordinary with this phone as the other three cameras don’t add much value. The depth sensor can be used to take good portrait shots but the macro lens is not that useful to be honest.

As for selfies, you should get decent shots but again, nothing out of the ordinary. The photos are good enough to share on your social media pages so if you don’t take that many photos, this camera will be good enough for you.

    Battery

With a 6,000 mAh battery, you are covered if you want one that lasts long. With this, I could easily get the battery to last for up to 3 days. This is not a very powerful phone so it will not drain the battery that fast. This makes it perfect for those who do not have time to charge their phones every day.

The phone does not support fast charging so some patience is needed when charging it. This may not be a big deal for most people as you can just charge it overnight and wake up with a full battery.
