Kenya has stepped up preparations to host the 21st annual Internet Governance Forum 2026 in Nairobi, following a high-level visit by a delegation from the IGF Secretariat.
The delegation was led by IGF Secretariat representatives and accompanied by global internet governance stakeholders and met Kenyan officials including Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Philip Thigo, Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology.
During the visit, the team toured the Bomas International Convention Centre, which is expected to host the main IGF 2026 sessions scheduled for 14–18 December 2026.
The visit also included the IGF Open Consultations and Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) meeting preparations.
According to officials, Kenya is working closely with the IGF Secretariat, the MAG and the Local Host Committee to ensure smooth delivery of the global forum, which brings together governments, private sector leaders, civil society, technical experts and academia to shape global internet governance policy.
The IGF is one of the United Nations’ most influential platforms for discussions on digital rights, cybersecurity, AI governance and the future of the open internet.
Kenya’s hosting of IGF 2026 comes shortly after the country was selected to host the REAIM 2027, further strengthening Nairobi’s position as an emerging global hub for technology governance and policy dialogue.
