Snapchat will soon let you add music to videos you record. The feature is currently rolling out to some Snapchat users in select countries. Addition of music to videos has been one of TikTok’s flagship features and Snap’s latest addition is sort of aimed to take on that.

Snapchat will let its users embed popular songs on videos. Snap users will be provided with a list of recommended songs to embed in a new section called “Featured Sounds” as shown in the hero image.

Available songs at launch will include songs from different labels, including the most prominent ones like Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Publishing Group. It will be “a robust and curated catalogue of music” the company said.

The feature is designed to help Snap users share music with “real friends,” says the company.

Recently American social media companies have gone straight up to take on TikTok. YouTube, and Instagram, are all working a TikTok competing feature on their platforms. Snapchat also started to test TikTok-like Navigation for Public Content.

The new navigation features a vertical swiping motion to go through content in Snapchat’s Discover section. Snap’s discover section which features public content from celebs, and other public figures.

Facebook has also recently acquired streaming rights of music videos in partnership with major music companies including the likes of Sony Music, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. With its launch users can find music videos in Facebook Watch and on artists’ Facebook pages.
