Netflix is very popular around the world, and you don’t need a lengthy research paper to show you that. The app is among the top 10 most downloaded apps in the world. Now the app hit the 1 billion install milestone on the Google Play Store (via Android Police).

It joins YouTube’s league, yet another streaming application with installs in the billion-plus category. And just like YouTube, which has massive head start on installs due to pre-installation, Netflix is also pre-installed on some devices. You will find Netflix pre-installed on OnePlus and Samsung phones.

Despite that, Netflix’s large market share in the streaming market is well documented. Recent data from Sensor Tower, a statics firm, ranked Netflix at number nine on its of top apps worldwide in the first half of the year.

In comparison, Amazon Prime Video currently has Play Store installs ranging between 100 to 500 million.

And in spite of the substantial range in terms of downloads and market share, Netflix is also at work trying to improve its lead. In some markets like India, the company has recently started testing another cheap streaming plan.

So maybe the streaming wars are going to be won by the same champion that will take over the global market outside the US. Several streaming services have popped up since last year to give competition to Netflix.

That includes Apple with its own streaming platform called Apple TV+, Disney with Disney Plus, and NBC with Peacock, a free streaming service supported by ads.
